Overview

The steel air shaft is a slotted-type air shaft whose body is made from special-alloy cold-drawn steel tube. The steel body carries the load reliably where heavy rolls and high torque are involved. Its surface is hard chrome plated to protect it against corrosion and wear.

The lugs that grip the core are made from steel and induction-hardened against wear. The shaft journals are made from hardened special steel and CNC-machined to the customer’s technical drawing. At the end of production, the shaft is balanced. Standard and special diameters, length ranges and warranty details are listed in the table below.

Features

  • Slotted-type body made from special-alloy cold-drawn steel tube
  • Hard chrome plated surface for protection against corrosion and wear
  • Steel lugs, induction-hardened
  • Journals made from hardened special steel and CNC-machined
  • Journal finishes such as chrome, nickel, phosphate and zinc on request
  • Balanced body
  • Low maintenance requirement; maintenance is simple when needed
  • Special diameters and lengths to customer request

Applications

The steel air shaft is used on winders and unwinders handling heavy rolls, on paper, packaging and plastic film lines, and wherever high torque has to be transmitted. It is preferred on lines where the shaft is positioned with a hoist or handling equipment and its weight is not an ergonomic drawback. See our paper page for application examples. If you need a lighter body, see our aluminium air shaft.

Requesting a quotation

To prepare your shaft correctly, we need:

  • Core inner diameter
  • Overall and usable shaft length
  • Roll weight, width and maximum roll diameter
  • A dimensioned drawing of the shaft journals, or the machine drawing
  • Line speed and torque to be transmitted
  • Quantity required

You can send your request through our contact page.
