Overview

The aluminium air shaft is a lightweight air shaft whose body is made from an extruded aluminium profile. Its low weight makes handling and roll changes easier on lines where operators fit and remove shafts frequently. The body profile is anodised to protect it against corrosion and impact and to increase its surface hardness and durability.

The shaft journals are made from hardened special steel and CNC-machined to the customer’s technical drawing, so the shaft is prepared to suit the bearings or safety chucks on your machine. Standard and special diameters, length ranges and the other technical values are listed in the table below.

Features

  • Lightweight body made from an extruded aluminium profile
  • Anodised surface for protection against corrosion and impact
  • Shaft journals made from hardened special steel
  • Journals CNC-machined to the customer’s drawing
  • Journal finishes such as chrome, nickel, phosphate and zinc on request
  • Air-tightness, strength and balance tests before shipment
  • Special diameters and lengths available alongside standard sizes

Applications

The aluminium air shaft is used on winders and unwinders, slitter rewinders and laminators in packaging, printing, paper and plastic film lines. It is a particularly good fit where shafts are carried by hand, roll changes are frequent and rolls are of medium weight. See our packaging page for application examples. For heavier rolls and higher torque, the steel air shaft may be a better choice.

Requesting a quotation

To prepare the right shaft, we need the following:

  • Core inner diameter
  • Overall shaft length and the usable length on which the cores sit
  • Roll weight and width
  • A dimensioned drawing of the shaft journals, or the machine drawing
  • Line speed and machine type
  • Quantity required

You can send your request through our contact page.
