Overview

The carbon fibre air shaft has a body made from carbon fibre composite. Compared with metals, carbon fibre offers high stiffness at low weight. In an air shaft, this addresses two problems at once: the shaft stays light enough to be carried by hand, and over long lengths it deflects less under its own weight and the load of the roll.

AYS Makina builds carbon fibre air shafts to the technical drawings and requirements sent by its customers. Standard diameters, together with standard and on-request length ranges, are listed in the table below.

Features

  • Carbon fibre composite body
  • Lighter than metal-bodied shafts
  • High stiffness, so less deflection over long lengths
  • Low mass, so less inertia during acceleration and deceleration
  • Shaft journals made to the customer’s technical drawing
  • Wide choice of standard diameters, with longer lengths on request

Applications

The carbon fibre air shaft is typically considered for wide machines, on winders and unwinders that need long shafts. It suits plastic film, packaging and printing lines where shafts are often carried by hand and where deflection could affect winding quality. See our plastics page for application examples, and compare the other body options on our air shafts page.

Requesting a quotation

With carbon fibre shafts, length and load directly influence the body specification, so please share:

  • Core inner diameter
  • Overall shaft length and the distance between bearings
  • Roll weight and width
  • Line speed
  • A dimensioned drawing of the shaft journals, or the machine drawing
  • Quantity required

You can send your request through our contact page.
